Our Story
Hello! My name is Alexis and my mom’s name is Donna. My mom was diagnosed with Early-Onset Alzheimer’s on July 18, 2018 at the age of 56. I was 23 years old at the time and as an only child with an incredibly strong bond to my mom, this news was confusing and devastating to say the very least. Since then, I’ve made it a priority to educate myself on this disease and raise awareness. Alongside my superhuman dad and incredible husband, I strive to be the best daughter and caregiver for the most selfless woman I’ve ever known. Anyone who has met my mom can agree that she is the type of person you want to know and love because she truly wants to know and love you. My mom’s memories are fading and this disease is progressing, but her contagious laughter and warm spirit are still very present.
I started Love, Petunia as a sentimental way to honor my mom and involve her as much as possible. The word “love” is in my mom’s handwriting from one of many old cards and “petunia” is a nickname she called me when I was young. The bracelets we sell are handmade and each has a tiny purple bead to represent Alzheimer’s. My mom and I LOVE gift-giving and we’d love to be your one-stop-shop for all things gifting! For every purchase from our store, we donate 5% to Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area.
We appreciate your support and hope you find something you love! Thank you for supporting the fight against Alzheimer’s Disease!
Love, Petunia
